1. Uninstalling Updates

For whichever version of Windows you are using be it Windows 10, Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 or Windows XP, the update matters. If you have recently got your OS updated to its latest version then check for KB971033 update. To find if you have installed it, check using the following steps:

  • Open Control Panel by pressing the Windows Key.

  • Now, below the Programs option click on the Uninstall a Program option.

  • Then in the new window at the top right corner, search for KB and press enter.

  • Select the KB971033 update from the list of results and right-click on it.
  • Now, press on Uninstall option to get the update uninstalled.
  • Done.

The update which might have caused the error has been removed now and after restarting your system you would find the Windows not genuine issue solved. For those who are not able to find the KB971033 update in the control panel, they should not consider this as the issue with their system and switch to the next step.

2. Using Command Prompt

Here, in this step, we would use the SLMGR – REARM which is used to reset the Windows licensing management tool and check the licensed status or available license keys in the system. The command should be entered in the command prompt and to do so, follow the steps:

  • Open the start menu by pressing the Windows key on the keyboard.
  • Now, search for cmd and press Enter.

  • Right-Click on the top result and select Run as administrator option.
  • That opens the command prompt (CMD) in the admin mode.

  • Now, type SLMGR -REARM and press Enter key.
  • Wait till the process gets completed and restart after it.

After restarting you might find that the black screen has disappeared now and this type of Windows is not genuine error is solved. If not solved, then we have a few more methods to deal with the issue.

Note: In case the SLMGR -REARM command shows an error then type SLMGR /REARM command and press enter.

3. Using Run Command

Here we will make changes in the Plug & Play services of Windows using the Run command and then restart to check if the Windows is not genuine error is solved.

  • Open the Run command using the Windows + R key.
  • Now in the search section, type rsop.mscand press the Enter key.

  • In the new window, go to Windows Settings and then to Security Systems.

  • Click on the System Services option.
  • In the list, find the Plug and Play services and then right-click to go to its properties.

  • In the startup section, choose the Automatic option from the drop-down list.
  • Close the window now.
  • Again launch the Run command as we did earlier.
  • Now, enter gpupdate/force and press Enter.

After restarting the pc, if the was due to improper working of the Plug and Play services then it might get solved and the This type of Windows is not Genuine won’t be there now.

4. Check for Antivirus or AntiMalware software

The Antivirus or AntiMalware software sometime might detect the registry files as a suspicious file due to several logical reasons like downloading unwanted software that can change internal windows settings. So, if you are sure that you have not installed any harmless software of downloaded any unsafe file than you can disable your Antivirus or AntiMalware software and try checking for the Windows not genuine error on your desktop after you restart.

There might be also a case when a suspicious file is making changes with the Windows license settings and that file is needed to get rid off. So, Scan your PC using the Antivirus or AntiMalware software and remove all the suspicious files. This would remove the file from the system and then you can restart to check if the error persists.

5. Buy new Windows

The last option that you have to solve the “Windows is not Genuine” problem if you have installed Windows using Piracy software like KMSpico or KMSauto or any other Windows Activator software or any other method. The software or method you used are not a legal version and can cause issues. So, the best advice would be to buy the original licensed version of Windows.

This step will solve your error for sure. But after buying the licensed version of windows, try to use, copy or download the trusted files only.
